Today's puzzle comes from a manuscript held at the Wellcome Library (MS 626) in London. This frontispiece to a late fifteenth-century copy of a medical treatise by Matthaeus Platearius provides a great deal of rich information about the origin of this manuscript including, as it does, a motto and a coat of arms. For those wishing to explore further (including hints about the coat of arms and motto), the Wellcome Library's catalog entry provides additional information.
